It’s been awhile since I’ve done a stable diffusion model vs model video—aka checkpoint vs checkpoint. And since the release of SDXL there have been so many great community fine-tuned models.
The very first community fine-tuned SDXL model was Dreamshaper XL by Lykon. Since its release, it has been my favorite SDXL model. But now there’s a new challenger in town: Juggernaut XL by KandooAI.
In this article, we’ll be putting these two art engines through their paces! I’ve handpicked 10 positive prompts from each model’s page on Civit AI for a total of 20 images per model. The rest of the settings like sampler, cfg scale, etc. are left at default. And since these are XL models, I’ll be generating the images at 1024 x 1024 pixels.

Wow, what an epic art battle! Both Dreamshaper XL and Juggernaut XL showcased their artistic strengths. Dreamshaper wowed with its nuanced artistry and finesse, while Juggernaut came out strong with its bold creativity.
If forced to pick a winner, I have to go with Dreamshaper XL—it just resonates with me a bit more. But honestly, they’re both incredible SDXL models. Huge shoutout to Lykon and Kandoo AI for taking generative art to the next level!
